Musical Sheets
In the history of art, major events are reflected in the art created at the time. While it is difficult to detect the impact of these events on the work, without the passage of time, I have nonetheless started to think about my impulse for creating, Musical Sheets, which I began at the onset of the 2020 pandemic. In the past my work has always explored space, by contrast Musical Sheets, are flat, driven by pattern not space. Is that because my access to the outside world has been limited and my daily life confined to home and walks in the park?
Silhouetting large solid forms of textured paper against a sheet of white deckled edged Arches paper and then adding smaller paper fragments and calligraphic stokes in black India ink is for me like writing music.
